What to See & Do in Mexico City

Aside from the amazing food scene (see: Where to Eat & Drink), there’s plenty to see and do in Mexico City:

  • Visit a Museum.

    • Museo Nacional de Antropología. This has been closed during the pandemic, but it’s at the top of my list to get to. Everyone says it is a must.

    • Frida Khalo Museum. Located in the neighborhood of Coyoacan, this house turned museum is where the artist spent most of her life.

    • Casa de Luis Barragon. I made it here and it was super cool. As the name suggests, it’s the house of the architect and is filled with colored walls and unique decor.

    • Museo Soumaya. One of the most recognizable museums in Mexico City, founded by Carlos Slim, and admission is free.

    • Museo Jumex. Modern art museum located right next to Museo Soumaya.

  • Visit One of the Many Parks.

    • Parque Mexico. This is the large park in the heart of Condesa. Go on a Saturday to chill and people watch. You’ll find everything from salsa dancing, rollerbladers, Tik Tokers, live music, etc. Make sure to grab a churro from El Moro.

    • Bosque de Chapultepec. This is Mexico City’s equivalent to NYC’s Central Park. There’s the Chapultepec castle, museums, and a zoo.

    • Parque Lincoln. Not Chicago, this is the main park in Polanco. The north side of the park is lined with restaurants and people sitting outside along the street.

  • Explore San Angel. On Saturdays this cute neighborhood of Mexico City has a market with local vendors. One of the oldest cantinas is here too, La Camelia.

  • Check out Zocalo. This is the main square of the city and the largest plaza in Latin America.

  • Work Out at Barry’s Bootcamp. Missing NYC workouts? Barrys’ only Mexico location is now open in Santa Fe. There is one instructor who teaches the class in English (John), and the rest are in Spanish..making a great combo of a workout and a free Spanish lesson. I love the staff and instructors (go see my friend Pam!) and there is no better way to start the day than here with the sunrise and these people.

  • Go for a boat ride with friends at Xochimilco. This is a great Saturday afternoon activity if you’re looking to have a few drinks with friends. Hop aboard their colorful boats and float around the canals. You can purchase food, flower crowns, plants, etc. during the trip in your own private gondola-like boat.

  • Visit Teotihuacán. This is one of the most famous Aztec pyramids, located ~30 minutes outside of the city.

  • Go Perfume Shopping at Xinu. This little shop in Polanco has some really unique perfumes - high quality and reasonably priced.

  • Road Trip. Visit other cities by car or a short plane ride.

    • By Car: San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Bravo, Puebla, Tepoztlan, Cuernavaca

    • By Plane: Oaxaca, Tulum, Acapulco, Puerto Escondido, Puerto Vallarta, Careyes, Sayulita, Valle de Guadalupe, Guadalajara

  • Eat & Drink. See here.
